Old Hot Wheels at the store now?
Jan 30th, 2010 at 3:59pm

This year, at Wal Mart I found a 2003 1940 Ford and a 2002 Vulture. At Target I found a 2001 Double Vision, a 1998 Super Comp Dragster, two 1998 Shadow Jets (One has all small wheels), and even a 1996 Speed Blaster. The Super Comp Dragster's card is torn and both of the Wal Mart cars have normal wear and tear, but the others are in just as good condition as the 2010 models... And I found them on the pegs this year. Has anyone else had this luck?

In the early 1980's I would find redline HW still on the pegs at some of the older Toys R Us stores in and around the Chicagoland areas. Also at some of the old style dime stores that were still hanging on. It seemed that when the workers filled the pegs they always pushed the older cars further back and they never were in site for customers to buy. Also back in 1980 the HW collecting craze was not as great and older models were ignored in favor of the newest releases. At one Toys R Us (also known as Bargain Town U.S.A. in the early 70's) I found an original redline 67 T-Bird that was found while moving shelving racks and simply placed back on the racks. There also was a Gaylords Dept. Store in Joliet, Il. that was going out of business, so they were not restocking any toys. On the hot wheel pegs were hundreds of redline American Dumpers or Tippers I don't recall the name, but when you see that you think if they don't want them then I don't want them and they never will be sought after because there are so many of them.  I am so sorry I never bought any.

Still come across models like the 2003 '32 Deuce Roadsters and Midnight Otto's. There about the oldest we still see here.

I have found some older hot wheels on the pegs as well. Sometimes the customer does not finish paying for there lay away. Or they found some ones box in the back room. That has been there for years. Great day to you and happy hunting too! Cool

Wal Mart in Vernon Tx. has a whole rack of 2003 Vernon cruise night 32 fords. The toy stocker says she has boxes of them back in the stockroom.

Sounds like someone isn't restocking like they should. But maybe some are secert stash's that were left behind.

They ordered a bunch of them and they didnt get sold. Vernon is a small town with only one other collector that I am aware of. blk_stang_2008 wrote on Mar 11th, 2010 at 7:26am:

Back in January I scored five old ones that were all on the pegs at the Base Exchange on Charleston Air Force Base.

1998 First Editions Dairy Delivery
1998 Tattoo Machines Series Corvette Stingray
1998 Tropicool Series Ice Cream Truck
1998 Tropicool Series Baja Bug
1998 Tropicool Series Classic Caddy

And a couple days later I found a 1999 '32 Ford Coupe with a super faded blister at my Wal-Mart. I was brand new to collecting at the time so I just figured all blisters turned like that.

old stock in the back store room...     I think I'd be asking to get back there & help them thin out their inventory problem

Just found a 2003 First Edition Sinistra at Wal-Mart. Its one of the ugliest cars I've bought but I'll take a 7 year old diecast for $.97 any day.

I found an arcade on vacation that had about 100 cars all at least ten years old. I went crazy with the games, but only won enough tickets for six of them. I don't remember which they were though. xP I need to go check.
