If anyone is in the Philly area... my dad was working there in the late 70s, 1980ish. I went to visit him and my stepmother let me play with my older stepbrothers extensive hotwheel collection. He's 17 years older than me so though I don't recall specifically, I assume we are talking about some true classics. I also played with a shovel and was a rather destructive child. Needless to say, a small fortune in redlines lies in an unmarked grave in a housing complex in Philadelphia. I'm 35 now and back up in New England, my dad down in South Carolina, but not a single visit to them goes by without me hearing "you just wait til the day he asks for his cars back and we tell him what you did." I only take comfort in the fact that I was 6 or 7, and they were adults and well, just should have known better. Hope he sees it the same way, lol. P.S. is there any sort of Relocation or Protection Program for something like this? Heh.  Undecided

Great story!  Which reminds me...
About 1974ish I lived in Indianapolis and had an extensive set of hot wheels and track.  We lived at 10th St and Raceway Rd.  Go one way, you hit the 500, go the other you hit the Summer Nationals!  (This is also before there was easy access to the strip, so when the drags let out, we would sit by the road as trucks pulling all manner of dragsters would slowly creep by toward the intersection, for hours and hours.  Accumulated hundreds of sponsor stickers.  What a great place to grow up.)  Anyway, my friend Bobby and I got in a fight over something childish (we were about 7 or 8) in front of his house which bordered the tall grass of "Savage Country" which eventually led out to the main intersection I mentioned.  One of us grabbed a hot wheel from the other and flung it (with insults) into the tall grass.  There proceeded a mutual hurling of cars and profanities until there was nothing left.  Some time later we both tried to find our cars, but it was almost hopeless.  I especially miss the antifreeze T-4-2 I lost.  This type of behavior from children is what has made these cars so hard to find.  No more toys for kids!  Wink

These are the good ones left.  I have about the same amount in well-abused condition.  Plus some transitional blackwalls from this time period.   Grin

I don't have any pictures to add, as I'm re-starting my collection...again.

But I do love the stories of mass diecasticide, and wanted to submit one of my own.  I thought about the day my stepbrother and I shot redlines out into a field with a slingshot, but...well, that's about the whole story.  Or the day we decided to convert both our collections into "silvertops" by scraping the roofs on the sidewalk, but the most destructive had to be "Hot Wheels Football"

Basically, we'd line up two teams of cars (this was about 1978 so they were pretty much all redlines) against each other.  The defense was really just a line of big hitters - Heavyweights, Supervans, Spoiler Sports and maybe a Funny Money or two.  The offense was pretty similar, except that you'd have a "quarterback", which was usually a wedge-shaped car like a Race Bait 308 or Steam Roller.  We'd square off about 8 inches from each other and ram our lines together with all the arm strength we could muster.   If the quarterback moved forward, that counted as yards gained, but if it flipped over in the collision, it was a turnover.

Needless to say, we hurt our fingers alot, but nearly as much as the poor redlines.  It's sad really, but for a few hours of childhood fun, I could buy a house.
